I discovered Acai berry juice in my store’s chilled organic section, and loved it – the last two days, in the evening, I’ve found myself filling up a cup with ice and Acai juice, and it tastes so good I’ve ended up drinking most of the bottle (the bottle is 32 oz, so at least 24-26 oz.) in about thirty minutes. It caused immediate ‘rumbling’ in my bowels and later I found myself defecating quite a lot. That was it the first few times- but yesterday was the first time I’d had it two nights in a row, both quite a lot. I seemed to pee out a lot of fluid clearly, and was a bit thirsty after, but when I woke up this morning my stomach felt a little off. When it got a little worse, I took a promethazine tablet (anti-nausia) but literally within minutes I ended up throwing up. I went online to check out Acai and could find very little to help me in the strictly medical sense (as it isn’t a medicine, but IS used for cleansing the system and seems to be promoted for detoxification of one’s system). I just starting drinking it as a fruit juice, like one would grape juice – I was unaware that, say, like ginger, Acai berries might have strong medicinal properties. I wanted to know if the Acai juice I’d consumed in large quantities, with small meals after and with, might have this effect and/or what the health interactions could be? I have irritable bowel, so I had assumed the reaction initially (before the nausia this morning) to simply be my GI system being sensitive to something in the food, not necessarily a normal reaction. I’d appreciate an experienced and well based opinion/feedback on this matter – medical background would be a big plus.
